Times of Past of Our Country

Journalism and its quest for news have had an impact on American history, helping to write about the events that shaped our country into what it is today.

One of the most compelling events is the story of two Washington Post reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. Their determined efforts to expose the Watergate scandal involving a break in at the Democratic headquarters helped to bring down the most powerful in the country at the time, Richard Nixon. Time Gone by, the Good and the Bad

You used to be able to pick up a paper and know what you were reading was fact. Today, with all of the different types of media available, everyone has to have their say in the news. You never know if what you are reading is someone else’s view or if it is a strongly researched story.

What Happened To What We Call The Lost Colony

The lost colony was the first English attempt to colonize the New World, now known as the USA. Sir Walter Raleigh was granted a patent to colonize as much of the New World as he could. He sent two explorers, Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to scout the coastal areas that are now North Carolina and Virginia. They landed on Roanoke Island. They returned to England with favorable reports. Impressed, Raleigh gathered a group of soldiers, scholars and craftsmen. They sailed off to colonize Roanoke Island.
