CNN was the first 24-hour news service offered nationally and spawned tens of imitators since its inception in 1980.

Journalism and its quest for news have had an impact on American history, helping to write about the events that shaped our country into what it is today.

You used to be able to pick up a paper and know what you were reading was fact. Today, with all of the different types of media available, everyone has to have their say in the news. You never know if what you are reading is someone else’s view or if it is a strongly researched story.

The lost colony was the first English attempt to colonize the New World, now known as the USA. Sir Walter Raleigh was granted a patent to colonize as much of the New World as he could. He sent two explorers, Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to scout the coastal areas that are now North Carolina and Virginia. They landed on Roanoke Island.
